Ashes in the Hands

Only one Ashes in the Hands may be played each game.
Each Methuselah discards his or her hand and burns one pool for each card less than discarded by his or her predator.
Compelling game need:
This is a vote that in most cases doesn't do much, but could contribute to a larger strategy. Combined with cards like Meddling of Semsith, Year of Fortune, Dreams of the Sphinx, Visit from the Capuchin you could have some interesting results.

Rewritten with the same mecanism:
I see how it interacts with +X hand size, but can't see how it resolves a "compelling game need". Having +X hand size is already great by itself.

I assume the "compelling game need" is "making the game end before time runs out".

Aside from the pool burn effect, this could enable consistent brinkmanship decks.
