file Submission: Chantry Indoctrination

14 Apr 2018 13:51 - 15 Apr 2018 17:36 #86234 by GreyB
Name: Chantry Indoctrination
Clan: Tremere/Tremere Antitribu
Cost: 1 blood
Card type: Action
Card text:
Put this card on a slave you own control.
This slave cannot be targetted by actions that would change ownership control of this slave.
Cards requiring presence or domination played against this slave cost 1 extra blood.
Burn this card when this slave enters torpor.

How does this card address a compelling game need?:
When you play Gargoyles; Reindoctrination hurts like hell (granted, it's rarely played, but this card exists). So this is a prevention against Reindoctrination (And graverobbing/mindrape). Standalone that would not be worthwhile to add to your deck, so it makes presence and domination cards cost 1 blood more as well, which is interresting to use against S:CE and Obedience.

What does "own" mean? Control? Permanent control (as opposed to Temptation, or other temporary steals)? Some games use terms like "own" to mean "started in my deck, even if someone else has nicked it already".

The S:CE angle seems much less interesting than just thumping them with Immortal Grapple and Disarm. The Obedience angle is interesting, but perhaps more interesting is the Deflection angle. As written, it stacks - making Deflection potentially cost many blood.

From the point of view of what you're suggesting is the primary purpose, however, I'd be somewhat concerned that an action is expensive for something that might not happen. If it happens early in the game and you are bringing several Gargoyles out, there's still a reasonable chance that they can hit a different Gargoyle anyhow. e.g. you've just flipped out your second Gargoyle, they hit that one before it has a chance to act.

Rattling it around in my head overnight, I wondered if a Visceratika card with a Reflex level might be appropriate? Reflex, cancel a steal. Vis/VIS: two decent abilities. Solid Foundation - art notes: Gargoyle half-melted into the floor of a stone building.

Control, fixed it.

Totally agree, though this whilst less effective can be more durable. Packing ~8 IG's is not so effective against a weenie presence S:CE deck.

The Obedience angle is interesting, but perhaps more interesting is the Deflection angle. As written, it stacks - making Deflection potentially cost many blood.

Hmm, had not thought about deflection, I suddenly like this design a lot more :P

Exactly what I though when I wrote just the primary text, hence the secondary text. Though in your example, you'd be in bigger trouble if they stole the first one ;) The primary text in itself is not great indeed since it might never happen.

Looking forward to see it fleshed out ;) In any case it needs to be a multi purpose card that also adds something gargoyles don't already have and makes it worthwhile to play Gargoyle slaves (without tupdogs).
