Yes, and the fact that "Independent" is a sect is still funny. The four sects are: Camarilla, Sabbat, Independent and Laibon.

I want to be different, like all the other different people. B-)Yes, and the fact that "Independent" is a sect is still funny.

That's correct (based on the rules). As it's vaguely relevant to the whole category of pretending to be a trait you don't have, Independent is the "default" sect for things that don't specify a sect. This can be vaguely important when 'pseudo-vampire' allies play an effect as a vampire - if it has an effect based on the playing minion's sect, the ally is Independent.

It's always been understood that having "Independent" (or, originally, "non-Camarilla") as a sect is a little odd, thematically speaking - Ravnos aren't in a secret club with Daughters - but it makes things flow more easily if everything has a sect.
For the record, though, I don't make official decisions.

So base on the rulebook officially only Camarilla, Sabbat, Laibon, and Independent are sects? Would like to get an official decision by james or Pascal regarding that.

vampires without a sect designation (like
allies posing as vampires) are independent.

Though while playing the Baron card, he would also be impersonating an Anarch at that point, because impersonating a Baron implicitly requires you to be an Anarch, much like impersonating a Clan Justicar requires you to pretend to be part of that clan and the Camarilla sect.
