Do you have to find an Archetype to gain the blood from Guide and Mentor?

Guide and Mentor

Put this card into play. A vampire you control may search your library for a master: archetype and move 1 blood from the bank and that card to himself or herself as a +1 stealth action that costs X pool where X is the number of copies of that card on minions you control (requirements and cost apply as normal).

No, you do not have to find an archetype to gain the blood.

The action is to search your library, and any action that has that effect does not require you to find whatever you are searching for.

If you need a good alternate hunt action and a way to shuffle your deck, then this isn't a bad one.

if you search your library, etc (say with a Magic Of The Smith) you are allowed to fail to find anything, if you so choose.

If an effect causes you to search your library, shuffle it afterward. If an effect causes you to search your crypt, shuffle it afterward.

One more question on G&M, can a vampire with an archetype take the action?
I don't think so, but if you can always opted not to find one I don't know for sure.

Precedent from Lord Ashton is no. If there is no possibility of finding a card that can be legally put on the vampire, you can't take the action at all. If there is the theoretic possibility of finding such a card, but the library only contains illegal cards (or no relevant cars at all), then you can take the action but must fail in the search.

Any other Gangrel can search his or her controller's library for an Animalism, Fortitude or Protean Master: Discipline card and move it to himself or herself as a +1 stealth action

He can't put the card on himself (card text on the discipline card).

No.

No. In this case, the search (for one of the non-superior Discipline
cards) fails and no card is retrieved.

There's then some discussion of the difference between "search" and "go grab the first one" (like on Vast Wealth), where voluntary failure is impossible and the incoming illegal card is burned.
