What are the groupings?

Look at the bottom left, below the picture: you'll see a number between 1 and 6, or nothing at all. If there's a number, that's the group. If there's no number, the card was released before the grouping rules came into effect, and it means it's either group 1 or 2: if there's no symbol in the top right, it's group 1 (released during the original Jyhad/VTES era); if there's an expansion symbol, it's group 2.

Let me recommend you try building decks with ARDB (or just put a copy of them there). It has a few useful functions, one of them being that it highlights illegal crypt-combinations by making the suspect vampires red in the list.

If you have an idea for a deck, put it on here and throw up a bunch of "I'm a Newbie" caveats so that you get the kind of advice you need. The Deck Clinic is that place for all of that sort of thing.
