times S:D vs S:CE + effect

If a S:D is played by Minion A and a S:CE + effect (e.g. Catatonic Fear, Unholy Penance) is played by Minion B, does Minion A dodge the "+effect" of the S:CE?

Unholy Penance
Type: Combat
Requires: Presence
Cost: 1 blood
 Strike: combat ends.
As above, and put this card on the opposing minion (ranged). The striking vampire gets +1 bleed against this minion's controller. This minion may burn this card as a +1 stealth action. A minion can have only one Unholy Penance.

Catatonic Fear
Type: Combat
Requires: Presence
Cost: 1 blood
 Strike: combat ends.
As above, and inflict 1 damage to the opposing minion once combat ends if the range is close.

6.4.5 in the rulebook answers this question *perfectly*.

I don't know that agree with Kevin about *perfectly*, but it does have the answer you seek.

Rulebook Section 6.4.5

Dodge. A dodge strike deals no damage, but it protects the dodging minion and his possessions from the effects of the opposing strike.

Combat Ends. This effect ends combat immediately. Combat ends is not affected by a dodge, since dodge only cancels effects that are directed at the dodging minion.

The ending combat part is not affected by Dodge.
The +effect that would do something to the minion playing Dodge is avoided by the minion playing Dodge.

It is especially nice to play inferior Meld with the Land when your opponent has played a Dodge.

Thanks gentlemen. I had this debate last night particularly with Unholy Penance.
