file Thoughts betrayed

17 Jun 2013 12:08 #49921 by ChaosMadness7
Hello to all !
My question pertains to the "thoughts betrayed" card wich say's that : The "opposing minion cannot use cards until after combat". Question; Is the damage prevention phase part of combat ? meaning that If I play the card I could do pretty much what I want to the minion without him being able to prevent it ?
My question stems from the fact that damage prevention is not included in the combat sequence but the cards are "combat cards" as they bear the symbol...
Thanks for your help (and patience)!

I believe it says they cannot play STRIKE cards for the rest of combat. So tornsignpost, fists of death, carrion crows and prevention cards (to name but a few) are all still fair game

It's always a good idea to include cardtext ;)

Name: Thoughts Betrayed
Cardtype: Combat
Cost: 2 blood
Discipline: Dominate
Only usable before range is determined on the first round.
[dom] Opposing minion takes 1 additional damage in the first round of combat during normal strike resolution.
[DOM] Opposing minion cannot play any strike cards for the duration of this combat.

Damage prevention is indeed part of the combat. Rulebook 6.4.6 , CRR VI.C.2.c .
It can only happen when damage is applied, which is most of the time during strike resolution.

If you play Thoughts Betrayed, they can still prevent the damage from your strike with a card such as Skin of Rock

Name: Skin of Rock
Anarchs:PAG3]
Cardtype: Combat
Discipline: Fortitude
[for] Prevent 1 damage.
[FOR] Prevent 2 damage.

Skin of Rock isn't a strike card.
[EDIT]: "Strike" cards read "Strike: {do something}". Common examples: Majesty, Coma, Taste of Death.

I think the old printing said "combat cards" but thats too strong. Its current version says it prohibits strike cards. Which is cool, but rarely 3 blood cool.
Also, if you are interested, the inferior version only does damage at close range, and shpuld probably be avoided as a play at all costs.........

Yep, prevention, maneuvers, etc. are legal unless they are part of Strike:XXXX or strike card text with something similar.
