Consider Wormwood has 6 counters.
I have a 10 cap vampire who is treated as a 6 cap.
I now play Barreness on that vampire.
I see 2 possiblites now:
1. The vampires capacity is reduced from 10 to 8, and Worwood treats him as a 6-cap. (Wormwood does not actually reduce that vamps capacity, it just treats it as a 6-cap.)
2. Wormwood treats the vamp as a 6-cap for all purposes, and Barreness reduces the capacity to 4.
Im not sure which one is correct.
Barrenness
[Action] Action
[Burn Option]
[Maleficia] Maleficia
+1 stealth action.
[mal]
Put this card on a vampire and untap this acting vampire. This vampire is sterile and his or her capacity decreases by 2 (to a minimum of 1.) [mal] is not a Discipline.
[MAL]
Burn a vampire whose capacity is 1.
Wormwood
[Event] Event
Gehenna. Do not replace until your next discard phase.
Requires at least one other Gehenna card in play. Put 10 counters on this card. Burn 1 counter whenever another Gehenna card is put in play. A vampire whose capacity is greater than X is treated as if his or her capacity is X (minimum of 1), where X is the number of counters on this card.

Answer 1.
Wormwood states "A vampire whose capacity is greater than X is treated as if his or her capacity is X". It doesn't reduce the capacity.

Barrenness is a proper capacity affecter (unlike the weirdness of Orun), so the vampire's actual capacity is 8. Then Wormwood means that it's treated as 6.
Wormwood snags the vampire's actual capacity (complete with any effects that have changed that actual capacity) and clamps it to X. Orun will add to that X (or to the vampire's real capacity if it is less than X) for cards played by other players. [LSJ 20051205]
