Hector Trelaine & Reform Body was created by XZealot
Hector Trelane
Clan: Tremere (group 4)
Capacity: 5
Disciplines: AUS THA dom nec
Independent: On the first round of combat, Hector can use strikes that require Thaumaturgy [tha] that are not usable on the first round. If Hector is sent to torpor or burned in combat, he is burned, and the controller of the opposing minion gains 4 pool.
Reform Body
Type: Combat/Reaction
Requires: Vicissitude
[vic] Only usable by a vampire being burned; he or she is sent into torpor instead. Usable by a vampire in torpor. Usable by a tapped vampire.
[VIC] As above, and this vampire gains 2 blood from the blood bank.
When Hector is sent to torpor and is burnt via his card text, can you play Reform Body to prevent his burning (and subsequently prevent his opposnent from gaining 4 pool)?
Is he sent to torpor instead?

I would probably say no, since Hector Trelaine's wording says if he goes to torpor he is burned. Which reform body does by sending you to torpor which will trigger again causing trelaine to burn for a second time.

Yes, if it happens in combat. But he will be sent to torpor instead (per Reform Body's cardtext) and therefore will be burned again (per Hector's cardtext) so he will end up burned anyway, and your opponent will gain 4 pool. When Hector is sent to torpor and is burnt via his card text, can you play Reform Body

I'm not 100% sure on this. Dual Form + Reform Body gives me pause for thought.
[LSJ 20050120]
The relevant card text on Dual Form is:
Is Hector's card text the same - that it only triggers on entry to torpor, like Dual Form(*)? I'd read it that way myself. And if there is no new sending to torpor (because he's already there), there's no new burn effect applied to him.
(*) Leaving aside the other un-readying effects that can trigger DF, obviously.

The Reform Body doesn't unready the already-unreadied
vampire, so there is no re-dual-form-bit, contrary to
earlier rulings this week.
The relevant card text on Dual Form is:
If either minion leaves the ready region, the other is burned.

LSJ's argument is that the vampire left the ready region only once. At first the vampire was burned (=> xe leaves the ready region) but instead of burning he was sent to torpor.
In the OP's scenario, the trigger isn't "leave the ready region" but "If Hector is sent to torpor or burned in combat".
Hector is sent to torpor in combat => he is also* burned per his cardtext (* it's not a replacement effect)
He would be burned => he is sent to torpor instead per RB's cardtext
Question is: is Hector "send to torpor" while he's already in torpor, and in that case does it trigger his special?

Vaguely analogous situations in the past have been handled such that the trigger has to non-redundantly occur. For example:
- Vampiric Disease says: "When an afflicted vampire untaps, he or she burns a blood or, if unable, burns the disease counter." If an "untap" effect is applied to the vampire who is already untapped, nothing happens.
[LSJ 20070920]
- Form of Corruption ( Image from Ancient Hearts ) used to say "Each time your prey gets the Edge". (It now requires you to get it 'anew'.) This was ruled to only occur when you got the Edge without already having it.
[LSJ 19971002]
- From the same exchange ( [LSJ 19971002] ), Disputed Territory and loquipment was ruled not to allow you to move a piece of loquipment if you didn't change controller (so I can't move my Palatial Estate from my Dimple to my Watenda without first going via your Adonai).
- Curse of Nitocris was moved back to require a fresh gain of the Edge in [LSJ 19971006] , although that is arguably more a function of designer intent (an apparently unintentional change in some of the V:TES tidy-up).
Similarly inspired question:
- Can I play Anima Gathering with a Toreador, before the action resolves have Alexandra untap that Toreador, and then leave that Toreador untapped without burning Anima Gathering? The text: "Burn this card if this minion untaps." appears to be an in-play effect. If I leave that vampire untapped, does Anima Gathering burn during my untap phase? I'd assume not.

No.

Absolutely correct.

REVERSAL: Transferring Locquipment via Disputed Territory to the *same*
Methuselah that currently controls the locquipment results in no effect -
the locquipment may *not* be moved to a different minion of the same
Methuselah. (Similarly, transferring the Rack from yourself to yourself
doesn't allow you to choose a new target).
- Curse of Nitocris was moved back to require a fresh gain of the Edge in [LSJ 19971006] , although that is arguably more a function of designer intent (an apparently unintentional change in some of the V:TES tidy-up).
