file Detailed Play Summary [IIC3]

I'm not sure how long the DPS has been there as a replacement to the CRR... however, I did spot something in [IIC3] which caught my attention.

3. For all other cards, pay cost to resolve effect immediately.
a. Pay cost.
b. Resolve effect.
c. Action modifiers and reaction cards that may be put in play depending on the success of the action (or of a block attempt) are "in limbo" until that is determined. [RTR]

Does this now mean, that card MUST be paid for fully before they resolve? Does it also mean that pool totals are checked between 3a) and 3b)?

Take cards such as Eternals of Sirius . If it is played by a Methuselah on 4 pool, do they die? Is it also for 'varying increased cost' cards such as Villein?

I asked this very question in our group, and was told 'you don't die, you end up on 5 pool'

Apparently there is a ruling that goes along with it, but I don't understand the logic behind it.

It's not a replacement, it's the same thing with a different name. The same text existed in 2011 , for example.

Cards have to be paid for, but you don't get ousted if you play Eternals of Sirius when on exactly 4 pool. See previous rulings on Eternals of Sirius, Villein, master on Secure Haven etc., such as those linked in this previous discussion .

You "pay cost to resolve effect immediately". Immediately means that the resolution is concomitant to the payment. Nothing happens between those two things.

So if you play an Eternal of Sirius while you are at 4 pool, you pay 4 and gain 5 at the same time, ending up with 5 pool.

Immediately means that you pay the cost right away. "steps 3a, 3b, and 3c are treated as a single unit" is a much clearer way to express what you interpret from "immediately" here.

No. Sentence must be parsed as "[pay cost] [to] [resolve effect immediately]".
Otherwise it would say "pay cost immediately to resolve effect".
Or, if it worked the way you understand, a better formulation would have been "pay cost, then ..." or "pay cost before ..."
