file Q: Hackerspace vs derange

Does Hackerspace trigger when an anarch vampire with a derange on it gets rid of the derange? Does it get a counter?

Hackerspace [Add to deck]
Master

Location.
Put this card in play with X counters, where X is the number of anarchs you control. When an anarch comes into play under your control, or when a vampire you control becomes anarch, add 1 counter to this card. When equipping an anarch, you can use the counters on this card to pay some or all of the blood or pool cost of the equipment.

Derange [Add to deck]
[Action] Action

[Malkavian] Malkavian
[Malkavian antitribu] Malkavian antitribu

This is a +1 stealth action.
(D) Put this card on a younger vampire. The vampire with this card is considered to be the same clan as the acting vampire. The vampire with this card does not untap as normal. During his or her controller's untap phase, he or she may burn 1 blood to untap. The vampire with this card may move it to another vampire as a (D) action. This card cannot be placed on a Malkavian or Malkavian antitribu.

I'm no expert but I would think not. Derange only changes your clan, not your sect or Anarch status. Derange turns an Independent Anarch Tzimisce into an Independent Anarch Malkavian or Malkavian Antitribu (depending on the clan of the vampire that played it). So getting rid of Derange also shouldn't change your sect or anarch status. Therefore, it wouldn't put another counter on Hackerspace.

Derange only changes your clan,

And therefore changes your sect to the default sect of that clan.

If a vampire changes clans (by means of a Clan Impersonation card, for example) to a clan that belongs to a different sect, he changes sects as well.

Note that you must actually change clan. So Lucita (base, Indepedennt) playing Clan Impersonation: Lasombra stays as Independent.

Changing sect can then cause you to lose your Anarch status:

All anarchs are Independent; becoming an anarch changes the vampire's sect to Independent if he was not Independent already. If the anarch changes sect, then he is no longer anarch

Derange turns an Independent Anarch Tzimisce into an Independent Anarch Malkavian or Malkavian Antitribu

Derange would turn an Independent Anarch Tzimisce into a Camarilla non-Anarch Malkavian, or a Sabbat non-Anarch Malkavian antitribu.

So getting rid of Derange also shouldn't change your sect or anarch status.

Getting rid of a clan changer causes you to change clan, back to your underlying clan. In the process, you re-assume the default sect for that clan - because you've just changed clan, so section 10 of the rulebook kicks in (quoted above).

Again, from Lucita, who kicked off a lot of this:

[LSJ 20000905]

> 3. Lucita clan-impersonates a Tzimisce.
She becomes a Tzimisce. Since she has changed clans to a clan of a different
sect, her sect changes [10].

> 4. Lucita burns the Tzimisce impersonation.
She becomes Lasombra (and remains Sabbat).

So:
- you started as Independent Tzimisce Anarch
- you changed clan to Malkavian (via Derange, via Clan Impersonation, whatever)
- that made you a Camarilla non-Anarch Malkavian (section 10 for the sect, section 10.5 for the non-Anarch)
- you burn the Derange, and change back to Tzimisce
- you're now a Sabbat non-Anarch Tzimisce (section 10)

If you were originally, say, an Independent Anarch Ravnos, became Camarilla non-Anarch Malkavian, and then changed back...

... you lost the Anarch-y under the rules in section 10.5. It didn't go inert (like a sect-inappropriate title), you lost it completely. So when you burn the Derange, you become an Independent non-Anarch Ravnos.
