file Sword of the Righteous vs Dagger

:combat: Sword of the Righteous
Only usable before range is determined.
:ani: Choose one of this vampire's melee weapons. For the remainder of combat, this vampire inflicts +1 damage each strike with that weapon. A vampire can play only one Sword of the Righteous each combat.
:val: As :ani: above, and the damage this vampire inflicts with the weapon is aggravated.
:VAL: As :val: above, and this vampire may prevent 1 damage this round.

:equipment: Dagger

Melee weapon.
You can put a second Dagger from your hand or ash heap on this minion after they equip this Dagger from your hand. Damage inflicted on a Kiasyd by this weapon is aggravated. Strike: strength+1 damage. Alternatively, ranged strike: strength damage and, after strike resolution, put this weapon out of play until the end of the action. Burn this weapon if any damage from it is prevented.

Relevant rulling: Still allows to fetch a second Dagger if equipped in a non-standard way (eg. Gift of Bellona). [LSJ 20100421]

Can I use :VAL: effect even when using the Dagger ranged strike: strength damage ?

If equiped with concealed weapon, can you get a second dagger?

About the first question:

The prevention comes from Sword of the Righteous. Not from Dagger.

So yes. You can use :VAL: , strike and then prevent 1 damage even the Dagger is out of play

(if I understand correctly, the question)

About the second question, for the next time, you better copypaste the text of the cards you are asking about. I copied Concealed Weapon below

With Concealed Weapon you equip with a weapon from your hand.

This minion equips with a non-unique weapon from your hand

With Dagger you get a second dagger if you equip it from your hand

after they equip this Dagger from your hand

It can be confusing, but one thing is an Equip Action and another things is To equip
An Equip action, equips you. But there are other ways to equip, Concealed Weapon is one of these ways.

If Dagger text had said "after they use an Equip action to equip" instead of "after they equip this Dagger" then the Concealed Weapon could not trigger the effect to put the second dagger because Concealed weapon is not an Equip Action. It just Equip (without an action).

Another point to take in account (not directly related to the question) is that the second dagger is not equipped. It is directly "put" as it says in the text of the card. This is another way to place an equip in play that is not an equip action, neither is equip (verb).

The focus of the question was about the interaction of the ranged strike with a melee weapon.
But reading again I understand that I should have asked about the :ani: / :val: instead of :VAL:
