Thaumaturgy is not a good discpline for trump combat, it is much more suited for attrition. You shouldn't be aiming for smashing everything in one combat or you will be really disappointed.

Thaumaturgy doesn't really trump stuff (other than Fortitude and guns) but Tremere have access to one of the great trumpers in the game: Thoughts Betrayed on :DOM: .

Only usable before range is determined on the first round.
:dom: Opposing minion takes 1 additional damage in the first round of combat during normal strike resolution.
:DOM: Opposing minion cannot play any strike cards for the duration of this combat.

Its one of those cards that looks good on paper, but isn't actually that good when you play it. For few reasons, first it costs 2 blood, second, it doesn't really do anything on itself, you still need other combat cards to actually beat up the opposing minion, and third, there is a lot of combat modules that don't really care about it at all (like torn signpost + blur, carrion crows, all kinds of weapons.

For few reasons, first it costs 2 blood, second, it doesn't really do anything on itself, you still need other combat cards to actually beat up the opposing minion, and third, there is a lot of combat modules that don't really care about it at all (like torn signpost + blur, carrion crows, all kinds of weapons.

Nothing's a great counter against everything, though, and Thoughts Betrayed works great against combat ends (the BAAAANE of Thaumaturgy combat) and strike based hit-back like Breath of the Dragon. It also trumps Aid from Bats which gives you the edge over animalism presses.

Also, it should be easy for thaumaturgy to compensate for the blood cost of Thoughts Betrayed.

Obviously it's not an auto include, and I haven't tried it yet properly, but it's worth looking into. Start with Thoughts Betrayed and Trap away - see how it goes if your meta is not combat heavy and survives basically on Combat Ends and Dodges.
