For starters, there are a lot of deck compositions (that are in different way affected by milling), and deck milling is not really helping you to oust in any meaningful way.

So it's random, non-interactive mechanic that most of the time does nothing except wasting everyone time. And i really like HoS, so screwing them with this poorly thought mechanic is infuriating.

So rather than blame the mechanic of milling (putting top cards of the deck into ash heap) why not blame the designers for 1. making it such a difficult win-con; and 2. not promoting recursion effects or bonuses from the ash heap.

I mean, if you had a vampire who got +X bleed where X is the number of different card-types in your ash heap, and your predator is using the mill strategy, well...

This is how Magic developed milling: 1. they gave players more options to do it, because that's what players wanted, and 2. they provided cards that cared about your ash heap and your opponent's ash heap, turning them both into bonuses or resources for your cards, and 3. they provided very hard counter strategy cards specifically against milling. Cards that shuffled your stuff back into your deck (safeguarding) or let you play it from the discard (recursion) or cards that punished them for milling (taxing).

Indeed. Milling should not be complicated, but meaningful, something blends into the game well. As I mentioned before, there are plenty of room for milling mechanic (as most of the time half of the deck is not used, so does not matter if thse cards are in your deck or in the graveyard) and for cards that operating from the ash heap, such as able to play them from the graveyard (then remove them from game) or rewarding players playing those card late game when there are a lot of cards in the ashheap.
