Some statistics, as I like it more than baseless bullshit. It's number of 10+ twd in secret library, which generally correlates with number of tournaments, which indirectly relates to the total № of players.
I'll add some VtES events on this "timeline"
year : № of events : change from previous year : %change : events in history of the game
2017 83 -34 -29% - ANTHOLOGY released, VtES EC at WoD Berlin
2016 117 -46 -28% - Anarchs Unbound relesed, Anthelios, ToGP, SoC baned, proxies allowed
2015 163 -39 -19% - February 21, 2015 Storyline Rewards
2014 202 -51 -20% - October 4, 2014 The Unaligned
2013 253 14 6% (!) - 2013-04-22 Lilith’s Blessing banned, first .pdf set
2012 239 -58 -20% - Villein Errata
2011 297 71 31% (!) - January 2nd, 2011 vekn.net officially launched
2010 226 -20 -8% (!) - September 10, 2010. "Torpor announcement"
2009 246 20 9% -November 19, 2008 KoT relesed
2008 226 19 9% - January 1st, 2008 EE, MoM, PTO banned
2007 207 90 77% (!) - (release of third edition at the end of 2006?)
2006 117 -6 -5% (!) - April 10, 2006 NoR released
2005 123 18 17% - January 1st, 2005 SC, KR, DU banned
2004 105 -19 -15% (!) - May 17, 2004 Gehenna released
2003 124 29 31%
2002 95 14 17%
2001 81 44 119%
2000 37
Some observations on the basis of this numbers:
1. Last two years are much worse than any before (-28+% drop!)
2. Being in/not in print is a factor, but not a defining one
3. WW promotion is not a factor either
4. NoR and Gehenna release looks like a real negative factor
5. except the last ones, each year of the "big bannings" was positive
6. Allowance of proxies was not helpful, maybe even it was big negative factor
7. Third edition (basic set without stupidity even with misprinted backs) was really cool, KoT (aka "Villein and other power creep") was Meh
What do you think?

Cool stats!
I'll have to disagree with the proposition of item number six. The statistics put it in the same bracket with a negative number in events organised, but it is basically just a continuation of a declining trend. Many other things happened that year as well.
I'd say the decline in events for the past years has been due to those persistent players still clinging on naturally dwindling away, as that happens. The lack of new players is a thing, and has been for years.
In our local meta the proxy allowance has actually brought in new players, and revitalized a couple.
All I'm saying is that such a correlation you're presenting there feels a bit far fetched to me.
But cool stats.
Krausedit\\ I still cringe whenever I'm thinking what kind of a boost it would've been to the game's credibility if they didn't mess up the 3rd ed backs... >.< Such a missed opportunity, even if there really wasn't that much actual damage.

I think this is a good example of correlation not being the same thing as causation.

You emotional reaction is understandable, but not called for.
Try not to panic and deny, but search for solution of the problem.

For the past 3 years I've organized 11-12 tournaments less than I did during the previous 3-4 years.
Personal situation just doesn't allow the luxury of devoting a whole Sunday each month to organizing tournament. Life happens as I'm sure it did fr many other organizers.

No wonder it's sometimes hard to find time for organized play.
Those loitering, good-for-nothing students though...
Now THAT's a resource!
Entertain me with events, younger generation!

Which is exactly why we need more new, younger people within the hobby, I'm sure everyone agrees. With the average age of players slowly climbing towards 40 instead of 20, people will have family, kids and jobs more often than not.For the past 3 years I've organized 11-12 tournaments less than I did during the previous 3-4 years.
