I've been researching a bit on how they print on gaming mats. You can screen print the neoprene but doing a Heat Transfer or Sublimation printing is the way to go. It's what is done on the Magic and other CCG playmats. The one issue with it is you pretty much have to have the whole picture be square or cover the entire mat to get a good looking mat. White is hard to do which isn't really a color in the process so you would have to fill in around the white areas. To make a long story short, you need to be able to print the entire sheet out and then Heat Transfer the image to the mat. The best colors of choice would be a dark color as the background and a light color as the graphic or wording. I fooled around with some of the colors and thought this looked pretty good.
The picture below is just about actual size of what the mat would look like.

It look to much like something escaped from a casino, because of the bright green
I don't really understand what are the need on the color, so I can't give advice. Except, maybe, trying something red.

Black with red lettering looks nicest.
Then again, I'd never purchase a playmat.
Haven't even once used the one I got in Palma.
YMMV

I agree. I like the black with red lettering and with just a plain line going across the middle and not down below. It looks cleaner than the others and more versitile IMO. I think I will mock up a final Black with Red lettering and see what I can do to get one printed out.
