mmm sorry but in the second example is the same player A no B who brings the second Jak into play. (my mistake)

Player A has Jake in play
Player A brings into play Jake

No where says Player A cannot play a Unique card that it's already in play.

The rules only reference the efect of bringing a unique card into play when another copy of that unique card is already in play and makes a diferentiation between two posibilities:

2+ diferent players with the same unique card: Contest battle

1 same player with 2 unique cards: Burns the incoming one because you cannot trigger the contest battle.

Please, my english is not so good so try to use another words to respond other than the already writen in the rulebook because as I read them nothing new comes to my mind

If you cannot bring into play another copy of a Unique card you already have in play (or control of it) say so clearly in the play cards section, unique section or advanced rules for contested cards because right now I believe all (me included) have been playing wrong for a long time without really being aware

"you cannot contest cards with yourself "
You can't do things that lead to illegal situations, such as playing a unique card you already have in play under your control.

I'm not contesting because the second one is burned instead... no ilegal situation there

DECK CONSTRUCTION

TIP: Be careful about putting duplicates of the same unique cards in your deck. You cannot control more than one of the same unique card at a time, and you cannot contest cards with yourself (if some effect would force you to contest a card with yourself, then you simply burn the incoming copy of the unique card). On the other hand, you may wish to have a second copy handy in case the first is burned.

You are not forced to play the second copy and you cannot choose to contest with yourself.

PS The burning when an effect forces a self contest is because of the contest and not something that happens instead.

There are a few examples of effects that could force you to contest a card with yourself, for instance Vast Wealth that equips a minion with the first equipment found in your library. It is legal to take the action because you don't know what will be the first equipment found, but if it happens to be a unique equipment you already have, then the new copy is burned.

Name: Vast Wealth
Cardtype: Master
Put this card on a ready minion you control. If you control this minion, they can equip with the first equipment you find in your library as a +1 stealth action (working down from the top; requirements and cost apply as normal; shuffle afterward).

There is still a problem here : the rule that you can't contest with yourself is written in a deckbuilding tip and not in the contest rules.
