Valuation? was created by salem
hi all,

A friend of mine is getting out of the game (sad) since he never has time to play any more. However, a few other of my friends are thinking of getting in to the game. So what I was hoping for is some idea of what my friend's collection is worth so the other guys can give him a fair price for it.

he's told me:

Approx 11,350 loose cards
12 made decks
28 new starters
Boxes

Looking back through some emails to find orders that i’ve done i’ve found:

Blood shadows court 1 box
Gehenna 1 box
2 lords of night
1 or 2 3rd
2 boosters kot
1 starter kot
2 kmw
Legacies of blood
2 and 1 of the latest ones with gargoyles and the avatar boxes.
Imbued 1 box

Parted out, it would be a couple of hundred bucks.
The biggest find there is the HttB starters, especially sealed.

The question I'd have is how well the loose cards match the sets the decks are built from. $200-300 looks reasonable to me.

all his decks he built were out of the cards he purchased. he did very little trading, so the decks will be from cards that match the loose ones/opened starters.

thanks for the estimate, I'll let him know.

Original Jyhad card collections can range from $0.01 to $0.05 (all figures in US Dollars) per card. Collections from later sets can start in that range and go as high as $0.15 or higher per card, depending on if there's a lot of highly valued expansions in the mix. (For example, a collection of Keepers of Tradition recently went for $0.15 per card).

At the present time, a collection that is mostly recent sets that can be bought at distributor prices directly from WW is obviously less valuable than it once was.

Based mostly just on the quantity of cards (I judge around 14,000), and the fact that there's some hotter stuff (Heirs to the Blood, Legacies of Blood, and esp Kindred Most Wanted), if you say $0.05 - $0.07 per card, you're in the range of $700 to $950.

I find that when both Adonai and I look at the valuation of something, I can count on his number being considerably lower than mine. I do think he's too pessimistic about the valuation, but there is no objective truth in a fluid market like this.

Salem, it sounds like prune over there is interested in buying your friend's collection for $700. I'd get them together for the sale ASAP.

while that sounds great, Kevin, I suspect the postage from Australia is going to kill the deal ;)
