My goal with Coils of the Serpent was for it to have good synergy with Skin of the Adder (which is about the best serpentis combat card currently) which supports press combat since it gives you prevent each round, so you could get a nice short chain combat using one of each to do similar damage to crows + bats, (h3, press, h3, while preventing 1 each round).

Bear in mind that Skin of the Adder costs a blood already. So with this, and the burn-a-blood at superior for the press, you're already losing 2 blood. Which is sort-of equivalent to taking one hand damage each round. (Obviously, it's better if you face aggropoke or something.)

You're still going to die pretty badly to most other forms of moderately aggressive combat, though. Torn Signpost, Blur, Disarm. Guns with blur, Ammo or Targets. Aggro-poke with a Target. Weenie Fortitude doesn't really care what you do. Most grinder/stickmen decks can probably hurt you more. And since Skin of the Adder is in plain-sight well before strikes are chosen, it's more annoying that being able to drop a Skin of Rock or something - they know you can prevent one, so they'll either not waste resources or use them knowing how to circumvent your prevent.

With the two together at superior, you can do 6 damage for a cost of 2 blood, having to spend one of them not knowing if you'll face Majesty or not. It's not awful, but a variety of other decks can get much better outcomes than that without spending blood, and sufficiently short chain that you can do it without being dedicated rush decks. So I'd be worried that it's not distinctive enough to be played for its own interest, or powerful enough that it's attractive to players for obvious power reasons. So while being far from unplayable wallpaper, I fear it would get lost in the morass of cards that are "okay".

Bear in mind that you could easily be playing Skin of the Adder + Target Vitals right now, for 4 damage in one round, for one blood. There's little sign of that being of much interest to people. And for the extra blood of superior Coils, you get 2 whole extra damage. Probably not the best trade ever.

(Yes, I'm aware that I compare combat cards to Target Head/Vitals a lot. That's because they're really, really good. Not broken in a strict power sense, but they do some funny things to the design space, since they're so easily playable and so very good, without a blood cost or discipline requirements.)

Skin of the Adder is actually pretty good against target vitals, since if you prevent their initial h1, the target does nothing.
