One of the aspects (among others) that keep new players away from vtes is complexity and a lot of obscure rules. Research area is one of those mechanics that should never be implented

Research area has its uses. My shalmalkavian deck could not function without it. As stated above, we need more use of the mechanic, as it is a good one, just severely underutilised.
On topic, love the mark 2, makes it a great addition to any deck.
