The out-of-play part is confusing... if it's not for that, Haze should be perfectly right: Dagger can't avoid the effect which is triggered immmediately when the conditions are met.

Klaital what makes you think Corporal untaps after a Descending vamp comes back? I wouldn't think that out-of-play things (and cards on them) change a bit during they out-of-play period...

Cards enter play untapped. That's the way it works, that's why Descent into Darkness has special text on inferior to have the vampire tapped.

Name: Descent into Darkness
Cardtype: Action
Cost: 1 blood
Discipline: Obtenebration
+1 stealth action.
[obt] Turn the acting vampire and any cards on him or her face down, out of play (breaking any temporary control effects). Put this card on him or her (in play). During your influence phase, move 2 blood to this face down vampire from the blood bank, and you can choose to burn this card to return the vampire to play, tapped.

So...does this mean that I cannot avoid burning the dagger?
I still feel that I'm not really clear on this?

The ruling was quite clear, and it said you can avoid burning it.

The rest of my post was more a wish for Pascal to evaluate the ruling, since I think it was made on false premises. After that we went even more off topic with Descent Into Darkness and stuff.
