Awake With Evening Freshness and Fast Reaction

Independent Futurist. Contrarian (titled, X votes where X is the number of votes as the acting minion.) Target Vitals is always the better combat card.

TL:DR Keywords aren't trivial, even if adding "Wake" to the lexicon seems trivial.
The whole point of keywords is to make it easier to create other cards to interact with them.
Adding the keyword "Wake" in this case, would make it so the design of future cards could include phrases such as "cancel a Wake card as it is played" or "remove a Wake card from the game" or "vampires may not play Wake cards during this action" etc.
There are in general very few uses of some keywords. Look at "Investment." Aside from the cards that are investments, there is one vampire (two if you count advanced versions separate) and one library card that utilize investments directly.
Having a keyword for bleed modifiers would shorten the wording on many cards, as well as the examples presented above under "Wake." Having a keyword for Voter Captivation would simplify making cards alternative to Voter Captivation that are exclusive. (There was a whole thread about that one, look it up

Care to elaborate on the specific magicks? Of the last half dozen people I've taught how to play, the biggest hurdle with Wake with Evening's Freshness is that Wake doesn't actually untap the vampire.

The issue with Wake cards is another one again, which is basically: we already have a keyword (or, rather, a key phrase), we're just not openly acknowledging it. The cards say "can play reaction cards as if untapped". What they actually mean is "magic happens here". The suggestion is simply to formalize something that is already going on - that this phrase implies several magical rules exceptions - and make it more obvious.

For instance, they are the only other reaction cards that can be played in the "as another card is played" window, alongside with cancellation cards.

Wake cards are usable whenever you could play any reaction card, whatever its window (as long it's during an action, excluding for instance Rewind Time).

Two have already been indicated:
1) Wakes go in the as-played window. It is often difficult to explain to people why a Wake-like card (enabling the play of a reaction like Power of All, for example) can be played in this fashion, but a card that untaps you (which would also enable the play of such a card) is not.
2) Wakes can be played at any point during the action (including after resolution), despite the fact that the rulebook indicates that that can't happen, and no Golden Rule of Cards text is present on such cards.
Others:
3) If you play an action card and it is cancelled (e.g. by Direct Intervention), there is no action. The action doesn't start and then end - There is no action. Since there is no action, action modifiers and reactions cannot be played (unless they have card text enabling this). Wakes can be played at this point, even though there is no action. e.g. [LSJ 20021024]
4) Reaction cards cannot be played in combat, because:
Wakes can:
[LSJ 20100527]
Legacy of Power is played inside combat because its card text - "Only usable when another vampire you control enters combat." - requires that. Wakes don't require that. Michael Luther's controller also draws the card when he "enters combat" (i.e. in combat), so the Wake is being played in combat, despite no enabling text.

Yes.
Legacy of Power is played inside combat because its card text - "Only usable when another vampire you control enters combat." - requires that. Wakes don't require that. Michael Luther's controller also draws the card when he "enters combat" (i.e. in combat), so the Wake is being played in combat, despite no enabling text.

thanks for the info, I really appreciate it!
reading it, it seems like LSJ had the ragingest of exception-to-the-rule boners for Wake*, what with being unable to use a true Untap effect (like Rat's Warning) to untap and do something that one would be able to Wake* and do. at least that's what I took away from it. I don't quite understand his thought process on why Wake has to function in the manner it does, but i can accept it. that is probably the strongest case that i can think of that merits changing the card-type for Wake* so that everything else stays consistent.
*and wake-like effects.

Please note that this one is tricky, as there is an *acting* minion, but no action3) If you play an action card and it is cancelled (e.g. by Direct Intervention), there is no action. There should be, yes. Except that it (the action card) gets canceled
as it is played. So the action that should have been ... isn't.
