I appreciate the feedback, Squidalot, but in my case I'm not dealing directly with the credit card companies. I doubt I could even get them to take my call on this.

For those of us who use as our main means of taking payment, PayPal operates as an intermediary, not as simply a processing and clearing house for credit card transactions. So the fraud aspects of this are entirely between PayPal and the credit card company.

In my cases, PayPal has said that the don't expect to be able to reclaim the funds from the credit card company. Even then in some cases they will take the loss and give the money back to the vendor. The different transactions I was hit with have been handled in a mix of ways, and I'm still wrangling with them to reconcile that.

Perhaps in this case it might help you to let them know that other people have been burned by the same person too.

Contacting vendors in this thread will probably yield the necessary details to prove that you are not an isolated case.
