I count 32. You have plenty of blood gain so it could work. Try it out.

Even in that deck, I wouldn't play Drain Essence. The bigger the theft, the more likely you will not get the full effect because either the opponent does not have the blood or you have too much, and you probably don't want Hector down to 3 blood anyway. I don't think it is worth the extra opportunity cost for your other vampires. Pretty much any of your other combat cards would be better. I would go for more Telepathic Tracking to beat those pesky Majesties.

It's funny, because it's typically the deck where i would play drain essence !
If you can hit on a big guy early it's golden. Plus it harms most of the dangerous allies out there (garous, shambling, war ghoul) without breaking a sweat.

the only problem is a lack of rush actions. Haven uncovered ?

In short, Essence drain is to be seen as a non-preventable strike for 4 damage that cost 0 blood. From time to time, you will recoup more blood, and in any case 4 damage is not all that bad.

And, as strange as it may seem, 4 unpreventable damage is often preferable to 2 aggravated one.
