Winged Second was created by Trigger
Only usable when another minion you control enters combat with a minion without flight. Tap this minion. In that combat, this minion may make a hand or melee weapon strike (with or without a strike card) on the opposing minion during normal strike resolution (only usable at close range). Dodge will avoid this strike, and damage prevention effects can treat this as a strike from an opposing minion. This minion can be the target of effects that inflict damage or steal blood as a retainer could be.

So, pretty much you get to attack with two defending minions during the combat? Can both defending minions play additional strikes? does the acting minion get to choose which defending minion to attack?

Thematically, yes. Actually, no. The minion playing Winged Second is not a proper combatant. He can only do what he's explicitly allowed to do by card text.

Not. Only combatants can play combat cards.

No. Only one of them is a combatant.

does the acting minion get to choose which defending minion to attack?


The acting minion can use damaging effects (or steal blood effects) and target the Winged Second as if it were a retainer, as per the card text of Winged Second. The rules on retainers and combat are in 6.4.7 of the rulebook, but basically boil down to: long range, and announce the choice when you announce the strike.

So the "Winged Second" minion receives one close combat strike of any sort and that's all. Since the range is close, the acting minion could not target the "Winged Second" with any form of strike since its not at long? Is that right?

Since the range is close, the acting minion could not target the "Winged Second" with any form of strike since its not at long? Is that right?


Winged Second doesn't set the range, it just lets the Winged Second strike as if at close range.

Ok, so to clarify: if the range is close, the Winged Second can strike with hands or melee weapon, and the opposing minion cannot target it normally (since it only takes damage "as a retainer", and that normally only works at long range).

If the range is long, the WS cannot normally do damage (unless it's a hand or melee weapon strike that does long range damage), and it can be targeted normally by any ranged damage / steal blood effect.

Is that correct?
