my group refuses to abide by the banned cards list.

Then abuse the banned list until they change their minds — those cards are banned for a reason.

The thing is, I'm not an a-hole, and I don't want to become an a-hole just becasue one or two of the players in my group are a-holes.

I play to enjoy myself, and if I'm ruining everyone else's game by playing unfair decks, then I can't enjoy that, guess I'm just too nice eh?

There is no such thing as an unfair deck. There is only legal or illegal. Your buddies already chose the rules, it is only fair that you exploit them to their full extent.

P.S.: how is that Byzar + Return to Innocence deck supposed to work? Return to Innocence does not burn the vampire, it removes it from the game, so Byzar's special does not work (neither does Blessed Resilience). Or are your buddies against errata too?

Yes, yes — my experience with banned cards is limited...

Bleed, Freak, Return to innocence is pretty decent motivator.
