Tournament rules regarding different backs on cards.

That's 'cause John did a completely sufficient job of it in a previous post.
The issue is that it doesn't really matter. Either someone is going to cheat (in which case, if you can discern that they are cheating, you call them on it) or they aren't (in which case the backing issue isn't an issue; I regularly use different card backs in my non sleeved decks. It doesn't hand my any extra info as I mix the cards sufficiently).

You've replied to everything except for my conclusion, bakija.

As said, just because requiring sleeves doesn't solve the backing problem perfectly it doesn't mean we shouldn't use the solution. We're basically allowing one kind of card back variance (jyhad vs. vtes backing and colour schemes) and disallowing all other kinds of card back variance.

I discussed it with a friend and here we are.

And as I've stated before in this thread, opaque sleeves are needed due to the very different colouring of the sets.
They've very obviously not been needed in the past, since they haven't ever been required by the VEKN tournament rules. What's changed since you started this thread to make them necessary?

Agreed. That is why I think this whole discussion is meaningless. As I assume good faith. As my experience in many years of competitive VTES is that the vast, vast majority of players are playing in good faith.

If we assume good faith, the point about added possibilities to cheat with sleeves is a non-issue. In fact, if we assume good faith, the entire discussion (and part of the tournament rules) about cheating is meaningless.

No. As far as I know, the VEKN tournament rules mandate a mix of card backs when playing with unsleeved cards that won't allow for the player using mixed backs to gain some advantage by doing so, and always have.

Can I then put 8 deflections and 3 freak drives as jyhad cards in my deck? Or some other combination which will help.

Can you post a decklist (with cards from both Jyhad and other sets)? And specify which cards are from what expansions.
I'd love to see some examples.

I don't think that your discussion with your friend is really sufficient reason to make a change to a rule that's been working without any problem since the founding of the VEKN.
