file New, less predictable, format for tournaments?

How about a tourney like this:

1. Regular constructed rules apply.
2. In addition there is a vote at the end of each table were people can vote which deck they liked the most. People may not vote for their own deck. Consider these votes a vp each. Apply game win rule here also.

Therefore each table is worth 2Gw 10Vps. In order to make it to the finals you have to build creative but viable decks! The top 5 play the final. In the final the normal vp/gw is used only.

Martin: the latest tournament format you proposed simply won't work. The one reason is that players will often not vote for the deck they most like, but will choose decks because of other reasons, for example they will choose
  • the deck they think is the weakest,
  • the deck their friend(s) are playing,
  • the deck they think have the least chance of getting the special GW
  • etc. etc.

A potentially enjoyable event might be, everyone shows up with two decks, a coin flip determines the deck they play round one. Then round two, you play your prey's unplayed deck, obviously, this would not work for large events as people would be worried about missing cards and shit.

More evidence that your deck need not be good in order to win:

Kevin: Just because I am curious .. why are Shared Nightmare and Taunt the Caged Beast on the watchlist for the Rapid Thought tournament rules?

The cards that are played by one player and affect all other players in the game, likely against their designed cost and intent, are on the Rapid Thought Watch List.

Totally unrelated to this question: I really would like to play a Rapid Thought tournament anytime soon. Just to see how/if it works and if it's a viable alternative. 45 minutes, my gosh!

Peter Bakija ran a RT "tournament" using my rules at Origins 2009. It was, by far, the best "tournament" experience that I have ever attended.

Another idea: multi discipline tournament. Each deck must contain at least 5 different disciplines and at least 5-7 (whatever) cards for each discipline. Ian Forestal is banned.
