What is missing from VtES?

Indeed... and a dodge still cancels the effects of a strike done with first strike.

I sort of understand why someone using Majesty etc could escape the First Strike with Combat End, but any old slowpoke using Dodge is able to thwart someone who is quicker than a speeding bullet!? :/

Below is how first strike works in Magic: The Gathering:

"This creature deals combat damage before creatures without first strike"

My theory is the confusion stems from this definition of first strike. Most people learned to play Magic before V:TES. First strike not actually being "first" doesn't sit well with some people because of this preconceived notion of first strike. First strike should be called something else in V:TES.

I'm "confused" about it and I certainly am missing theMtG baggage...

Who's arguing that they should work the same way? I'm arguing that calling it "first strike" makes sense in MtG (because it is first) but doesn't make sense in VTES (because it is not first). So call it something else.
